In the aftermath of Pakistan’s underwhelming performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has been removed from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee. Razzaq, along with former pacer Wahab Riaz, was informed of the decision on Wednesday.

The PCB’s decision comes as part of a significant reshuffle following the team’s failure to advance beyond the group stage of the tournament. Razzaq voiced his concerns on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), questioning the committee’s decision-making process that

“If all were given equal power, how can one vote overpower the other six in the selection committee?”

Wahab Riaz, also relieved from his duties, shared his thoughts in a heartfelt message on ‘X’. He emphasized the collaborative nature of the selection process and expressed pride in his contributions. “Serving as part of the selection panel was a privilege. We made decisions together and shared the responsibility equally,” he noted. Riaz also praised the coaching team’s vision and wished the national team success in the future.

In light of these changes, the PCB has established a new selection committee. This revamped panel features cricket legends Mohammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq, as well as esteemed coaches Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten. Additionally, captains Shan Masood and Babar Azam will play crucial roles in the selection process.

These changes signal a new direction for Pakistan cricket as the PCB aims to rebuild and strengthen the national team after recent setbacks. The inclusion of experienced figures in the new selection committee reflects a commitment to fostering a more effective and cohesive decision-making process.
