Washington D.C. – With President Joe Biden in isolation and recuperating from COVID-19, more and more influential Democrats are now raising questions over his re-election campaign. Prominent Democrats, including former President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, are reportedly having second thoughts on continuing their support for Biden’s candidacy.

Sources indicate that a number of Democratic leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, are demanding Biden step down from the presidential race. Things really came to a head after two events: the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump and a debated disaster for Biden against Trump last month.

The assassination attempt on Trump leaves him with an almost minor ear injury, further complicating Biden’s prospects for re-election by elevating his status among Republican supporters. But poor debate performance is bringing increased criticism from voters and other Democrats.

It is reported that Nancy Pelosi has told Biden in private to step out of the race since he cannot win. Reports indicate that Pelosi told Biden, after making no bones about the fact that there are huge challenges against him, that the congressman must withdraw his candidacy.

Adding to the pressure, there have been reports that Barack Obama has lost his faith in Biden’s ability to win. Sources close to the Democrats said that Obama, who has until now been one of Biden’s most powerful supporters, is now urging the President to completely revamp his campaign.

Those private discussions became public and raised an alarm with Democrats and many other political analysts. Senior Biden campaign officials have anonymously confided that the President is slowly waking up to the grim reality of his situation. Now in isolation at his beach house in Delaware, Biden has summoned a high-level meeting with Democratic leaders, begging them to consider allowing Vice President Kamala Harris to take his place on the ballot.

It would now be a logistical nightmare to change that, however. Democratic Party rules state that Biden cannot be replaced, having won the primaries, unless he decides to voluntarily resign.

With pressure mounting, the Democratic Party finds itself at a turnkey moment toward the presidency in the coming elections. The internal crisis and the calls for Biden to step down simply underline the exacting task and uncertainty lying ahead for the party.
