Major Data Leak at NADRA: 2.7 Million Citizens’ Information Stolen

Islamabad: In a shocking revelation, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has confirmed that data from 2.7 million Pakistani citizens has been stolen. This information came to light during a recent meeting of the National Assembly Committee, where NADRA’s chairman explained the details.

According to the chairman, the data leak happened internally, meaning that some people within NADRA were involved. The breach includes sensitive personal information of citizens, raising serious concerns about data security and the organization’s practices.

During the session, committee members raised questions about NADRA’s hiring processes, noting that some employees were hired without the usual job postings. It was also mentioned that a few officials finished their required education after being hired, which raised further concerns about oversight.

NADRA currently operates with a budget of PKR 57 billion, with 87% going to employee salaries. The organization uses around 40 mobile data collection vans and plans to buy new ones with advanced satellite connections.

National Assembly Member Agha Rafi Ullah pointed out that while 2.7 million citizens’ data was leaked, the real issue was that the information of some important individuals was also exposed. He criticized NADRA for not acting against those involved in the leak, who, he noted, still hold significant positions within the organization.

This incident has raised urgent calls for stronger security measures at NADRA to protect citizens’ data and prevent future breaches.
