As Pakistan marked its 78th Independence Day with nationwide celebrations, Karachi witnessed unfortunate incidents of aerial firing that left around 70 people injured.
The incidents occurred on Tuesday night as revellers across the city resorted to firing in the air to mark the occasion, rescue sources told Geo News.
The injured were rushed to hospitals from various parts of the city, including Mauripur Road, PIB Colony, Old Golimar, Korangi, Jamshed Quarter, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Lyari, and Malir.
The sources highlighted that similar incidents were also reported in Nazimabad, Sharifabad, Pak Colony, Akhtar Colony, and Old Golimar, among other areas.
Despite the widespread injuries, which included women and children, no fatalities were reported, offering some relief amid the chaos.
Last year, however, two people lost their lives and over 80 others were injured in similar incidents during Independence Day celebrations.
The nation is celebrating Independence Day with renewed enthusiasm and a pledge to work towards making Pakistan a true Islamic welfare state. Across Karachi, buildings and homes have been decorated with colorful lights and national flags, transforming the city into a vibrant display of patriotism.
Authorities have repeatedly urged the public to avoid dangerous celebratory practices like aerial firing, which continue to mar the otherwise joyous occasion.
