In a major move to combat environmental pollution, the federal government of Pakistan has imposed a ban on the purchase of petrol-powered motorcycles in the capital city of Islamabad.
The decision was announced by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to only purchase electric bikes in the future.
The ban aims to promote the use of eco-friendly vehicles and reduce carbon dioxide emissions from transportation.
It comes as part of the government’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions and follows similar measures taken by other countries like the United Kingdom, which plans to prohibit the sale of new petrol motorcycles from 2040.
