Key points:
- The government is considering a ban on PTI, says Murad Ali Shah.
- Murad Ali Shah claims PTI is responsible for its own troubles.
- He emphasizes that PPP has not supported banning any political party.
- Murad Ali Shah and Raza Rabbani advocate for democratic principles over bans.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said on Tuesday that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf itself is responsible for its troubles. While speaking about the possibility of a ban on the former ruling party, Shah said the PPP never favored a ban on any political party.
“The PPP was not taken on board in connection with taking the decision to ban the PTI,” Shah clarified.
His statement comes in tandem with that of former Senate chairman Raza Rabbani, who opposed the ban on the PTI.
He said that a ban on any political party goes against democratic norms and can lead to enhanced political uncertainty, causing harm to the economy.
If the government is not in agreement with the verdict of the Supreme Court, then instead of taking a confrontational stance, it should go for a constitutional review.
Rabbani noted that in the past, all such efforts made to ban a political party in Pakistan have gone in vain, while on the other hand, democratic norms have always been upheld.
