Karachi is set to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms today (Saturday), with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issuing a warning for potential urban flooding in the city’s low-lying areas.
The city is expected to remain under cloudy skies for the next 24 hours, with a high probability of rain accompanied by thunder. The PMD has forecasted that Karachi’s maximum temperature will range between 30°C and 32°C, with humidity levels hovering around 81%. Winds are currently blowing from the southwest at a speed of six kilometers per hour.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz has expressed concerns about urban flooding in low-lying areas of Karachi due to the anticipated heavy rainfall. The ongoing monsoon spell, which is expected to continue until August 25, has already brought rain to various districts in Sindh and Punjab.
The Met Office has also issued a nationwide rain prediction for today, with Karachi expected to experience heavy rainfall today and Sunday.
On Friday, several regions, including Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, experienced rainfall. Cities in Punjab such as Sheikhupura, Rahim Yar Khan, and Kasur, along with various areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, recorded significant rainfall.
Citizens are advised to remain cautious, particularly in low-lying areas, and to follow any further updates from the PMD. The authorities are also urged to take preventive measures to mitigate the impact of potential flooding in the city.
As the monsoon spell continues, Karachiites are bracing for further weather developments, while the authorities monitor the situation closely to ensure public safety.
