Pakistan has reportedly deported British journalist Charles Glass after he was denied permission to meet former Prime Minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, according to a report by Geo News.

Glass, a US-origin British journalist who arrived in Islamabad last week with the intent to meet Khan as a friend, was taken to the airport and had his visa cancelled.

Glass had sought permission from Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to visit Khan, who has been imprisoned since August 2022 on charges ranging from terrorism to corruption. Khan has consistently denied the allegations.

Glass had revealed his access was barred despite a court order allowing the meeting. Known for his extensive reporting on global conflicts, Glass had also previously advocated for Khan’s release, alongside Julian Assange, in an article written on World Press Freedom Day in May.

Assange was recently released from the UK’s Belmarsh prison, having pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges related to classified US documents.

With a career spanning 45 years and notable works such as “Soldiers Don’t Go Mad,” Glass has covered conflicts in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, highlighting the human experiences behind these crises.
