Pakistan’s premier medal hopeful, Arshad Nadeem, is poised to compete in the javelin throw qualification round at the Paris Olympics today (Tuesday). The competition, scheduled to start at 2:50 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST), will see Nadeem throwing fifth in Group B.
The Olympic organizers have confirmed the groupings, placing Nadeem alongside India’s gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, in what promises to be a highly competitive field. Group B also features World No. 5 Edis Matusevicius, World No. 6 Anderson Peters, and Germany’s Max Dehning, who has thrown over 90 meters this year.
To secure a spot in the final round, each athlete must achieve a minimum throw of 84 meters. If fewer than twelve athletes meet this mark, the top throws will qualify for the medal round.
Nadeem, 27, stands as Pakistan’s last and greatest hope for a medal in these Olympics. Of the seven athletes Pakistan sent to Paris, six have already exited the games. Nadeem’s recent successes, including a silver medal at last year’s World Championship and a historic gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a 90.18-meter throw, bolster hopes for a strong performance today.
As Nadeem steps into the spotlight, the nation eagerly watches, hoping for another monumental achievement from their star athlete.
