Islamabad, September 14, 2024– The PML-N government is actively engaging with Maulana Fazlur Rehman to gain his support for key constitutional amendments. A government delegation recently met with Maulana in a final push to secure his backing.
The government is reviewing the proposals submitted by Maulana, which include changes related to the eligibility of members for the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) and reforms concerning the parliamentary committee’s authority.
While the government has shown a willingness to consider these recommendations, Maulana remains firm in his opposition to sanctions being part of the amendments.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed that while he may support reforms regarding the panel and eligibility, any changes related to sanctions are non-negotiable.
Further consultations within his party will determine his final stance. The talks mark a significant step forward for the government, as Maulana’s backing could be pivotal in passing the amendments.
