Islamabad: The population growth rate in Pakistan is not only the highest in the world but also in the region. A recently released census report indicates that if this rate continues, Pakistan’s population could double by 2050.

According to the findings of the census bureau, Pakistan’s population growth rate is recorded as the highest in the world and the region. If this growth rate continues, it is projected that Pakistan’s population will double by 2050. Currently, more than 2.1 million people from countries like Bangladesh and other neighboring countries reside in Pakistan.

The report also highlights that over 25.3 million children between the ages of 5 to 16 are out of school, which is a significant portion of the population.

Since 2017, the highest population growth has been recorded in 2023. The literacy rate in Pakistan stands at 61%, with 68% of men and 53% of women being literate.

In Punjab, there are 9.6 million out-of-school children, and in Sindh, the number reaches 1.6 million. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 4.9 million children are out of school, while in Balochistan, the number exceeds 5 million.
