Special Courts Established in Islamabad for Trials Under PECA Act

ISLAMABAD – The federal government has established special courts in Islamabad for trials under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). The Ministry of Law and Justice has issued a Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) for the creation of these special courts.

According to the SRO, the special courts have been established in consultation with the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court. Additional District and Sessions Judges, as well as Civil Judges for East and West Islamabad, have been empowered to conduct trials under the PECA Act.

Justice Babar Sattar had sought a response from the federal government on June 6 regarding the non-establishment of courts under the PECA Act. Sources indicate that the trials of PTI Secretary Rauf Hassan and others may be conducted in these newly established courts.

The establishment of these special courts marks a significant step towards addressing electronic crimes more efficiently and effectively within the judicial framework of Islamabad.
